Dr. R. Appukuttan Nair, Eenchayil Veedu, Varkala (s/o Late Ramakrishna Nair and late Janaki Amma), passed away on Saturday, March 30th morning in New York, USA. Dr. Nair is survived by his wife, Latha Nair of Plancherry House, Trivandrum, and daughter, Archana Nair, student at Stanford University.
Dr. Nair was serving as a Professor at the Minnesota State University, Mankato, USA. Dr. Nair received his Ph.D in Electronics & Communication Engineering with Specialization in Microwave Horn Antennas from the University of Roorkee, India. In Sept 1986 Dr. Nair joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Technology, Mankato State University as a Professor. Dr. Nair was advisor to a great many graduate students and primarily taught in his field of communications. Prior to MSU Mankato, Dr. Nair’s academic teaching, research, and leadership positions included University of Idaho, USA, Gulf Polytechnic, Bahrain; University of Mosul, Iraq, T.K.M. College of Engineering, Quilon, Kerala and Government Engineering College, Trivandrum, Kerala.
Outside of his academic pursuits, Dr. Nair also served in the industry in multiple capacities including Vice-President for R&D and Board Member at Rho-Delta Inc., Consultant for Advanced Antenna Systems for Innova, Inc., and Member of the Technical Board of Phoenix Composites, Inc.
Dr. Nair’s research activities in High Gain Antennas and Microstrip Antennas were the subject of his many publications and two U.S. Patents. He was also a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE).
His cremation and last rites will be performed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA on Saturday April 6th 2013.
