MMA CHARITY FUND RAISER- 2017
“16000 USD in Support of CANCER Patients and Families”
WHEN – ThanksGiving- 2017 till New Year
Every day hundreds of patients and their families from all cross Kerala and nearby states of Tamilnadu and Karnataka come to Regional Cancer Center(RCC) Trivandrum, India - All connected together by one common need – A cure for Cancer. All come there emotionally drained due to the weight of the disease, the subsequent financial impact due to cost of treatment, and also loss of income due to inability to work. This is an emotionally and financially devastating reality, and many have no access to the help they need to cope and heal. Some go back cured, others not so lucky – none leave unscathed.
While RCC provides treatment to patients, there is never enough money to go around to support the patient needs. There are also areas like drug Expenses, food and accommodation for supporting family members, rehabilitation of patients who are cancer cured, education of kids etc which need active and daily support from well intentioned welfare organizations. Organizations like Asraya(http://asraya.org.in/) support patients and their caregivers through the entire support lifecycle, including patient care, RCC infra support, Drugbank support, Kids education and and patient and family rehabilitation. These organizations are almost always surviving based on funds received from well wishers and unlike some established organizations out here in the U.S, these organizations do not have any fund raising mechanisms. They generally get their funding by word of mouth or by people who come to know about them through their deeds.
MMA is organizing a fundraiser – An annual first- with a Goal to collect 16000 USD/1,000,000 Indian Rupees. This is targeted for 100% disbursement towards RCC patient support activities by teaming up with Asraya(http://asraya.org.in/). Asraya is an all women voluntary organization founded in 1996, efficiently run by a well intentioned volunteer team, comes with an open and audited financial book and clean reference. MMA will work with Asraya to disburse funds collected and will be reporting back on the disbursement at a quarterly frequency.
We are sure you will consider MMA at this time of the year when you consider your giving options. Please donate online or during the upcoming MMA- Christmas Program on Dec 9. We recommend a minimum suggested donation of 100 USD.
