Nominations invited for Oral History Project (Deadline 17-Nov-19)

Dear Community Members,
As communicated earlier Minnesota Malayalee Association (MMA) is inviting nominations from Community members for interviews for the Oral History Project. Please send in your nomination or your known contacts nomination using the attached template (MMA Oral History Nomination Form.doc ). All nominations should reach the Project Director for this project from MMA Board Suresh Pillai at  Suresh_r_p@yahoo.com on or before 17th  November 2019. The first set of interviews will be scheduled during Thanksgiving weekend. The interviews need to be completed by December 15th, 2019 to meet the transcription submission to Historical Society by March 2020. Dr. Savithry Namboodiripad will be conducting the interviews and look forward to your active participation in this prestigious project for our community.

The project objective is “To capture the oral history of the Minnesota Malayalee community; immigrants from Kerala, India and their successors who made Minnesota their home, and how they use their language”

Digital audio/video and hard copies of the transcripts will be maintained at MMA, IAM, Minnesota Historical Society and University of Michigan. The transcripts will be published in the website of MMA (http://mnmalayalee.org/mma/)  and will be available to Kerala Council of Historical Research (www.kchr.ac.in) for reference for future Oral history projects. An example Oral history project transcript can be found at http://collections.mnhs.org/cms/display?irn=10614125.

Best Regards

MMA Board
